Our Staff

Another Great Camp Story from Saginaw by Brian

Third-Year Staffer

Saginaw’s summer camp counselors and specialists are excellent role models and come from all over the world. Counselors are selected on the basis of skill, enthusiasm, warmth and a sincere desire to work with children in an overnight camp setting. Many of our counselors have spent their lives growing up as Saginaw campers and several of our staff return year after year.

Supervision is extremely important at summer camp for kids. Saginaw houses three staff members per bunk. All of our staff must be 19 or entering their sophomore year in college. Former campers may return to Camp Saginaw as staff when they are eighteen years old and entering their freshman year in college.

There are two types of staff positions at our summer camp. The first is a bunk counselor and the second is a specialist. There are always a minimum of two bunk counselors in every bunk and counselors are required to remain with the campers all day. Counselors escort campers to activities, assist with athletics and are always with their campers. Conversely, specialists are hired to teach activities. All specialists must demonstrate a strong aptitude in their activity area and have experience teaching or coaching children.

All Saginaw staff members must interview with a director, provide references and complete a full background check. Camp Saginaw runs a staff orientation prior to the arrival of the campers. This orientation lasts for five-days and is a required training process for all staff members.

Our success is dependent upon well qualified and highly trained staff. We do everything that we can to ensure successful staff acclimation to the overnight camp setting.
