1. Where is Camp Saginaw?
    We’re conveniently located one hour south of Philadelphia and one hour north of Baltimore, in Chester County, Pennsylvania on over 350 beautiful wooded acres.

  2. How many campers are there?
    Saginaw has about 200 boys and 200 girls, which is an ideal size for individual attention, lots of friends and great team play.

  3. Do counselors live in cabins?
    Yes. Supervision is extremely important, so we assign a minimum of two counselors to each cabin of approximately 8-12 campers. In addition, many cabins have three staff members.

  4. Who are the staff members?
    The counselors are excellent role models from all over the world. Counselors are carefully screened (background checks), interviewed, and selected on the basis of skill, enthusiasm, warmth and a sincere desire to work with kids. Many of our counselors have spent their lives growing up as Saginaw campers.

  5. How many days off do I receive during the summer?
    You will receive 2 ½ days off during the first four weeks, and 2 ½ days off for the second four weeks for a total of 5 days.

  6. How often do I get paid? Can I receive an advance on my salary?
    Checks are distributed on the last day of camp. However, you may request two (2) pay advances, each of $200.00 during the summer.

  7. Can I get my check cashed at the end of the summer?
    All international staff will have their checks cashed at the end of the summer.

  8. How do I get to camp as an international staff member once I arrive in the U.S.?
    Depending on the agency you are using to come to camp, will determine how you will be picked up and transported to camp. Some agencies arrange all of your travel and some agencies give you the option to arrange your own travel. Either way, we will make arrangements for a camp van to pick you up either from the Philadelphia Airport or Wilmington, DE, bus station. If you are a staff member already in the U.S., we will also arrange transportation from the Philadelphia Airport, Wilmington, DE bus and train station.

  9. Is there a doctor at camp?
    Always! In addition, a full nursing staff is also on duty 24 hours per day.

  10. Do I need to fill-out medical forms?
    Yes, all staff members are required to send or bring medical forms to camp. In addition, for international staff, they will also receive medical forms from their respective agencies which they must also complete.

  11. Can I work pre or post camp?
    There are a limited number of positions available for pre and post-camp work. If you are interested, please contact the Saginaw winter office as soon as possible.

  12. What is the staff to camper ratio?
    There is approximately one staff member for every four campers.

  13. Am I going to be the only new staff member? How many staff return?
    Approximately 50 percent of our staff return from the previous summer. Whether you are a returning or new staff member, everyone attends the staff orientation and becomes familiar with the camp, schedules, etc., prior to the campers arrival.

  14. Do I have access to the Internet?
    Yes, there will be free Internet access for the staff.

  15. What is the camp’s philosophy or mission?
    At Camp Saginaw, we take great pride in our commitment to the individual child. We encourage each boy and girl to discover new activities, expand friendships and develop self-confidence in our special camp family and in themselves.

  16. When does staff need to arrive at camp?
    International Staff must arrive on June 16, 2008 and all other staff on June 17, 2008, by 4:00 pm. The last day of camp for staff is August 14, 2008, unless you have a contract that states otherwise.

  17. What age groups are represented?
    Saginaw is for children 6-16 years-old. There are three divisions in camp; Juniors (6-10 years-old entering 1st-5th grade), Inters (11 & 12 years-old entering 6th & 7th grade ) and Seniors (13-16 years-old entering 8th -11th grade).

  18. Is Camp Saginaw coed?
    Camp Saginaw is a brother/sister camp, which means the boys and girls attend their own activities throughout the day and dine separately. However, many evening programs and out-of-camp trips are coed.

  19. What is a typical day schedule?
    This is a general outline of a "typical day". Each division has its own specific schedule.

  20. How does the staff handle homesickness?
    We are very conscious that homesickness is “common” for campers, especially the younger children and newcomers. As such, we educate and train our staff on how to deal homesickness. Our methods include; keeping the children busy (we do not have hours of free time for campers to wander alone), close counselor interaction, and keeping the focus on “now” and all the fun they are having at camp rather than on home. In addition, Camp Saginaw also has two guidance counselors (one for the boys and girls) who work closely with all the campers and are the liaison with the parents.

  21. What is the camp’s policy on drugs and alcohol?
    Camp has a zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol. As such, the use of either substance in camp will result in immediate dismissal.

  22. Does the camp provide transportation for days off?
    On certain designated days during the summer, camp will provide a bus to transport staff to the Wilmington Bus Station.

  23. Is there a staff orientation?
    Yes, there is a 4 1/2-day staff orientation from Tuesday, June 17 (4pm) to Saturday, June 21.
