The program includes many experiential activities. Campers can pan for gold down at the gorge below the lake or hunt for geodes at the rock ledge near the outpost campsite. After that activity the campers cut open the hollow rocks to find what crystals have grown inside. Campers participate in nature hikes, stream study, shelter construction, and outdoor cooking. The campers also learn different fire building techniques, such as the Native American post and drill method. Only in Outdoor Adventure can a camper find and taste the root that “root” beer is made from, build a personal tripod hammock from tree branches, dissect a regurgitated owl meal to see what he ate for dinner, capture a Pickeral frog that still has a tail and cook a “camp doughnut” over a fire they started with rubbing sticks together. All in two weeks! Outdoor Adventure is offered as a bunk activity for Junior and Inter campers.
